Is Your Pricing Strategy Based Upon Volume or Selling Price

Posted on: September 16th, 2011 by Joe Roy No Comments

As a small business owner, have you spent any time figuring out your pricing strategy for the  product or service that you sell? How does your price compare to the competition? Is your retail price based upon  volume or is it price-driven? Many small businesses price their product or service thinking that they have the volume of Sam’s Club or Costco with unit sales more like Mercedes. Establishing the wrong price when you enter business makes you believe that more sales will keep you in business.  Why does it seem that the harder you work, the more sales that you generate, the more money your business seems to lose?  Most small businesses fail because of price NOT sales!

Businesses think that consumers are price sensitive yet most consumers are not price driven! Does price play a role – absolutely. Are consumers willing to pay any price for poor quality or poor service -  clearly no! If you are looking to compete, differentiate your product from competitors. Set your prices to stay in business.

Did you know that:

  • Oil change companies charge in excess of $100 per hour
  • Consumers pay $12 per gallon of bottled water – more that gas

The City Council on Tuesday approved an economic incentive package which helps keep a railroad-related company on track to bring another 20 high-paying jobs to Flagler County.

Contemporary Machinery and Engineering Services will spend at least $3 million in capital investments on a 40,000-square-foot expansion within three years, according to the agreement approved by the City Council.

“We believe this is a win, win,” City Manager Jim Landon said.

The company now has 35 jobs and will expand to 55 with an average annual salary of more than $55,000, Greg Rawls, executive director of Enterprise Flagler, said at the meeting.
